Based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Zingerman’s Bakehouse does an astonishing business in savory and sweet crowd-pleasing delights that range from rye breads and Detroit-style pizza (the sauce goes on top of the cheese) to chocolate chess pie, rugelach, and a gorgeous looking Hungarian walnut roll. This book, like much that comes from Zingerman's, has a distinctive style, with lots of commentary from the authors and an idiosyncratic organization that grows on you. Props to the authors for including measurements by weight as well as volume, which always leads to more consistent results.
