This new London-based magazine of modern food and culture springs from an online newsletter which began during the pandemic. It draws on the talents of a very wide group of people, most of them writers, some of them visual artists.

To borrow from publisher Jonathan Nunn’s opening letter, “Issue 1 has no set theme, but if it had one it would be ‘fun.’ Food can be many things in disguise–class economics, migration–but it is also completely absurd, a testament to the extreme lengths to which humans have gone in order to make things delicious. This issue, fittingly, is filled with charlatans, hustlers, frauds, arguments, and gossip.”

Beyond Nunn saying that the theme here is “fun,” we’d also say that the theme is definitely not institutional reverence. One very complicated Venn diagram connects Alice Waters to Guy Ritchie via Salman Rushdie, with Stephen Fry dangling off almost on his own.

Contributors include people like Rebecca May Johnson, Jenny Linford, Nigel Slater, Ruby Tandoh, and many others whose names we don’t recognize like a Londoner might, but they certainly can write.

We really want to see where this goes.
