We have a limited number of copies of this magazine. Once they sell out, we will not have more.
Written and edited by Emily Wilson, based on her Substack newsletter of the same name, The Angel collects Wilson's best stories on the Los Angeles food scene. Handsome photography by David Gurzhiev complements Wilson's writing on a range of places and people.
If you know Los Angeles better than we do—and many people do—you might quibble with the articles we call out as interesting, but we're New Yorkers so we're used to other people thinking they know better than we do. But among the pieces that caught our eye:
- A profile of Fluffy McCloud's, an ice cream parlor on Sunset Boulevard
- An exploration of how Chef Junya Yamasaki changed the way some of LA's finest restaurants get their blue fin tuna
- How a third-generation owner of a Monterey Park noodle shop is keeping the business alive
- The twelve-year run of an Ethiopian restaurant in Inglewood
- Viticulture and winemaking in Malibu
There are a modest number of advertisements from small business in LA.
