This Detroit bakery draws on founder Lisa Ludwinski's experience baking in New York at Momofuku Milk Bar and Four & Twenty Blackbirds, and combines that with a funky Midwestern seasonality, some Motor City can-do attitude, and a dedication to being part of a growing, improving community. That spirit is evident throughout the book and it's contagious enough to inspire you to join Ludwinski on some pie adventures.
If you're looking for classic pies, move on. Pick up Sister Pie for strawberry pistachio crumble pie, for concord grape and goat cheese pie, and for toasted marshmallow butterscotch pie. Try out crusts made with aged gouda, with toasted pecans, and with cheddar cheese and rye flour. You'll also find a zippy assortment of other baked goods, including fresh mint and lime shortbread, peanut butter paprika cookies, and cream cheese, radish and dill scones. Very much not your standard baking book.
