The beloved Loaves & Fishes cookshop on Long Island’s East End pays tribute to local farms and seasonal produce in these books from a 12-volume set of smart, stylish, handsomely photographed clothbound series.
Loaves & Fishes proprietor Sybille van Kempen—who opened the original store alongside her mother, the legendary Anna Pump—worked with local chef Licia Kassim Householder to showcase wonderful things to prepare or pair using Long Island wines, especially those produced by the Massoud family, who have been winemakers since 1983. A bottle of Riesling is a core ingredient in drunken chicken, but almost any good dry red or white will do justice to osso bucco. And a cabernet sauvingnon enriches a grape chutney to help extend the harvest in a new way.
Handsomely packaged, almost like little gift books (just under 8 inches square and 72 pages long), the Loaves & Fishes Farm Series volumes are strongly evocative of both time and place and likely to become well used in seasonal kitchens and year-round.
Hardcover. Color photographs throughout.
