Para Llevar Issue 5: Flour + Water

Para Llevar is a periodical dedicated to the stories of hospitality and service workers. This issue focuses on two San Francisco establishments: Flour + Water and Penny Roma, sibling restaurants just down the street from each other.

Brief profiles introduce us to a few key figures at each place . Some tell us about their lives before and away from their time at the restaurant. Others are represented by only by photos. We meet a painter, who contrasts her quiet studio time with the social engagement of hospitality work. A vocalist and bassist who finds that her need to tour with her band is something the restaurants understand and embrace. The sous chef who crosses north to Marin county to shop at the farmer’s market there.

As always Para Llevar offers a perspective on people whose hard work often obscures the texture of their lives away from restaurants.
