OP: The Congressional Cook Book
The Congressional Club, 1965. Hardcover. Very Good. Seventh edition.
The Congressional Club was established in 1908 as an act of Congress to create a social, educational, and philanthropic atmosphere for the families of members of Congress. Since 1927, the members have semi-regularly compiled and published a cookbook to raise funds.
Here’s your chance to try Eleanor Roosevelt’s blueberry pudding (sliced white bread layered with cooked blueberries), Mrs. John R. Hansen’s (D-IA) tuna vegetable casserole (topped with crushed potato chips), Mrs. Ross Bass’ (D-TN) pork chops with mushrooms (featuring canned mushrooms and cream of mushroom soup), Mrs. Edward J. Derwinski’s (R-IL) barbecued spareribs, or Mrs. Ralph Webster Yarborough’s (D-TX) “yum-yum” potatoes (potatoes mashed with cottage cheese and sour cream, baked with parmesan cheese or fried onion rings on top).
This 1965 seventh edition is attractively designed, printed on heavy, glossy stock with cartoon illustrations and color photo inserts throughout. The blue dust jacket has darkened and bears some stains, chipping, and a 3-inch hole to the rear. The book block and case are graded Fine.
