Drawing inspiration from direct quotes of the beloved 1908 children’s classic Anne of Green Gables, this 1985 cookbook is a charming spinoff for nostalgic fans.
By far and away the majority of the recipes are bakes and sweets, but there are a “splendid salad,” a vegetable soup, and a saucy chicken to get the kiddos used to meal preparation. But it’ll be the orange angel cake, the chocolate caramel, and the shortbread cookies which reinforce measuring, mixing, and whisking skills. With adult supervision, of course.
Black and white and color illustrations by Barbara Di Lella add a storybook element.
