From the mid-eighties to the late nineties, Stars, with chef Jeramiah Tower at the helm, was one of the hottest restaurants in San Francisco. Emily Luchetti led the pastry kitchen for the bulk of its run.

With Stars at the forefront of establishing California cuisine, it is no wonder that Luchetti’s desserts, simple but elegant, highlight the state’s produce. In her 1991 cookbook, Stars Desserts, you’ll find fresh peaches topped with a caramel mascarpone whip, a blackberry napoleon with tangerine sabayon, pumpkin ice cream, and a mango lime mousse tart.

An understated classic.
