OP: Love in the Afternoon Cookbook
We found this one absolutely irresistible. Here, within a single cover is a collection of recipes from the great ABC-TV soaps of the 1970s.
You might not think of the settings of these emotionally charged melodramas as temples of gastronomy, but until you’ve encountered All My Children’s Erica Kane’s Midnight Snacks (Lover’s Fondue, for example, or Aspic d’Amor) and other treats, you can’t fully appreciate what you may have passed you by.
There are earthier selections from Ryan’s Hope—Corned Beef and Cabbage or a favorite of ours, the Fifth Avenue Casserole, which contains shell macaroni, tossed with flaked tuna and chopped celery and crushed potato chips and chopped walnuts, and water chestnuts—all dressed with (of course) condensed cream of chicken soup and mayonnaise, as well a as few flavorings, and then baked until pleasantly browned.
Dorian Lord Callison of One Life to Live contributes Tycoon Caviar Sauce and Crowd Pleaser Sherried Pears. And from General Hospital, Leslie Webber’s Sleep Late Quiche or Bobbie Spencer’s Fountain of Youth Fruit Dip.
A nice 7”x9” paperback, with some pictures of the stars and, of course, a measure of truly heated prose. The copy (a first edition yet!) has been read but is in in Very Good condition—clean, with a completely sound binding, the cover showing only a little bit of handling. Light foxing along the top edge.
