Textile manufacturer, importer, and designer Edmond Dewan Company issued a handful of thematically aligned cocktail napkin sets. The “Global Gaities” series was originally sold with a tablecloth which featured ten illustrated cocktails. The sets of six napkins each included a varying selection of those ten.
The imagery leans on the stereotypical dress of six nationalities to represent cocktails. A word of warning, though: the Forbidden Fruit cocktail, generically tropical and the only one without a specific country, is accompanied by offensive Sambo-like imagery. Otherwise, additional recipes include a vodka collins (Russia), an advocaat for Christmas (the Netherlands), a high ball (Scotland), a London gin fizz (England), and La France (you guessed it: France).
We’re pleased to offer the set in its rare original accordion paper wrappers. Though the wrappers are lightly creased and shelfworn, the napkins are in excellent shape, all except one still affixed to the paper.
