Alfred A. Knopf, New York, 1990. Hardcover. Near Fine. Second printing.

A myriad of biographies might be written about James Beard (1903–1985) without exhausting all the anecdotes or histories to be told of this larger-than-life 20th century icon.

While Beard wrote his own autobiography, Delights and Prejudices (1964), many others would tackle the subject after his passing. The first among them was Evan Jones—spouse of Beard’s longtime editor, Judith Jones, and an established food writer and cookbook author in his own right—with his Epicurean Delight (1990). Written just five years after Beard’s death, the book was ultimately by and for those who knew him directly either as a friend, a colleague, or as a public figure. Access to living interview subjects is certainly an advantage for Jones, and he makes good use of it.

Our copy is lightly shelfworn but likely unread. Near Fine. Second printing. Hardcover.
