Published twice a year, Nez explores the world around us via our sense of smell. It provides an insight into the vital role that olfactory sensations play in our lives. This novel approach encompasses art, literature, science, history, food, and perfume. While a large proportion of each issue is obviously given over to fragrance and perfumery, the relationship between scent and taste is inescapably part of the magazine as well.
This issue, entitled Money & Perfume, explores the connection between perfume, class and luxury, and the true value of perfume for those who smell it, buy it, and create it.
Discussions of the price of fragrances engage with both the cost of importing certain ingredients within (or without) frameworks of equitable and ethical pay along the supply chain, as well as simply goods that are priced at luxury prices for luxuries sake. In the article "Odors of the Masses, Odors of the Classes" the author explores how scents are used as a social marker and the ways that literature has referenced this divide, as well as how we police others by means of scent today.
The Odorama section, which celebrates a specific scent category in every issue is devoted to sulfur notes, with an exploration on fenugreek, and an analysis on body odors and the myriad of ways we are instructed to remedy them.
As always, There are many reviews of recently released (or re-released) perfumes and all things scented, as well as reviews of books and other media relating to scent. This issue features a surprising roundup of toothpastes beyond the classic cool mint for the brave and curious.
