A tip from Darra Goldstein led us to this remarkable book, the first we have ever imported from Moldova.
At an impressive 367 oversize pages (11.25” x 9.75”), it is a well-translated, thorough, sometimes poetic, and informative survey of traditional foods interspersed with features on dramatic geography, holiday celebrations, food lore, winemaking, and wonderful photography of food and countrysides.
There’s so much here that makes Moldova seem at once familiar and unknown. Among the recipes:
- Wild greens borscht
- Lamb offal wrapped in caul fat
- Beet leaves stuffed with pork
- Peppers stuffed with beans
- Garlic doughnuts
