With all of her earlier books now out of print, we're thrilled to see this collection of recipes from the inimitable Maida Heatter, for generations one of America's most beloved home bakers.
Gathered from six of Heatter's previously published books, the 100 recipes here can be considered a sort of best-of collection, including her famous Palm Beach Brownies and the East 62nd Street Lemon Cake. They're all famous for the meticulous way they're written and for the reliability that made Maida Heatter's name a byword among serious bakers.
If you need a book that shows you flavors you've never seen before, this is probably not your choice. But if you love classic American baked good, then this is your grand prize.
Maida's voice is evident on every page and is always a delight as she recounts her efforts to recreate someone else's star turn or how she hurriedly enjoyed a slice of cake before evacuating in the face of Hurricane Irma on her 101st birthday.
Hardcover. Happy full-color illustrations throughout by Alice Oehr. Foreword by Dorie Greenspan.
This is one of three recent books which collect some of Maida Heatter's best recipes. Its companions are Chocolate is Forever, and Cookies are Magic. Somewhat shockingly to us, the publishers seem to have assumed that someone interested in Maida Heatter might not buy all three books. So there are some recipes which are repeated from book to book, such as the Palm Beach Brownies.
