What does it mean to cook between cultures? For many writers, chefs, and home cooks, the kitchen is where inherited traditions meet new identities, creating food that reflects migration, memory, adaptation, and belonging.

Join moderator Bettina Makalintal acclaimed food writer and senior reporter at Eater, for a conversation with cookbook authors Eric Kim (Korean American), Zaynab Issa (Third Culture Cooking) Hawa Hassan (In Bibi's Kitchen, Setting a Place for Us), and Stacey Mei Yan Fong (50 Pies, 50 States). Together, they'll explore how growing up between cultures has shaped their cooking, the stories they tell through food, and the ways recipes become a language for navigating family, home, and identity.

From reimagining beloved childhood dishes to preserving traditions while making room for change, these authors offer deeply personal perspectives on what it means to create a cuisine that is entirely your own. Thoughtful, moving, and delicious, this conversation celebrates the richness of third culture cooking and the many ways food helps us find—and define—a sense of belonging.
