Event: Feeding Our People: Comfort, Care, and Home Cooking
Thursday, July 16 at 111 Broadway in the Financial District.
Doors open 6:00 | Talk 6:30-7:30 | Book Signing 7:30-8:00 pm
Food is one of the most powerful ways we care for one another, but hospitality doesn’t have to mean perfection. Moderated by Gail Simmons, culinary authority, host, and author of the forthcoming Guesting, which explores the art of gathering and hospitality, this conversation brings together Dan Pelosi, Hetty Lui McKinnon, and Katherine Lewin, co-founder of the beloved dinner party shop Big Night, to discuss the many ways we feed the people we love, from weeknight dinners and celebratory gatherings to the everyday act of nourishing ourselves.
Drawing on their acclaimed books and distinctive approaches to cooking and entertaining, the panelists will explore how food can foster friendship, chosen family, comfort, and connection. Together, they’ll discuss what it means to cook from a place of generosity rather than performance, how to create welcoming spaces without stress or excess, and why some of the most meaningful acts of hospitality happen around ordinary meals.
From Dan Pelosi’s joyful, abundance-filled celebrations and Hetty McKinnon’s thoughtful approach to everyday nourishment to Katherine Lewin’s refreshingly accessible philosophy of entertaining, this conversation will examine the evolving meaning of hospitality at home—and how we can make people feel cared for, welcomed, and at ease around our tables.
