If it's possible to capture the full energy of Los Angeles' dynamic dining scene, then Crapanzano seems to have done it with this ambitious tour of dining spots from Studio City to Silver Lake, from West Hollywood to Pasadena.
It's clear that LA cooks know how to take advantage of agricultural abundance, as well as an eye-opening array of cultural traditions represented and reborn in the city. Charred cucumber gazpacho from Josiah Citron at Charcoal; tomato salad with crispy potatoes and whipped feta from Jessica Koslow at Sqirl; caramelized cipollini onion tarte tatin from Nancy Silverton at Mozza. Or maybe a laid-back orange-cardamom shortbread from Na Young Ma of Proof Bakery.
Is there more to be said on this subject? Undoubtedly. But this is a fun place to start the conversation.
