Dhoop—the Hindi word for sunshine—is a striking independent magazine exploring food and food culture through an Indian lens. Each issue weaves together storytelling, photography, and visual art to reflect ways of thinking and eating rooted in a different set of starting points than those typically found in Euro-American food media.

Written, designed, and printed in India, Dhoop is as much about perspective as it is about subject—expansive, questioning, and unapologetically grounded in place.

The theme of this third issue is "cooking," and how it interacts and engages with nature, culture, sustainability, and design. For example, Payal Pereira reminisces about kitchens which were built for cooks who sat on the floor.  Sindhu Shivaprasad contemplates the impact of the switch from kitchen tools made from brass, bronze, and cast iron to stainless steel and non-stick surfaces.

Those who bought the (sold out) earlier issues of dhoop will notice that its design has evolved and become more confident, even as its contributors address more complex issues. An inspiring evolution.
