Fried, an American ex-pat living in Quito, has gathered and standardized recipes from home cooks and annotated them with details of their use in daily life, seeking to preserve details that were often not written down. The book is in Spanish, but Fried has provided a thirteen-page glossary which translates idiomatic Ecuadorian into English as well as French and German, and five pages in which she provides the botanical names of vegetables, fruits, and herbs.
