Chianti Classico: The Atlas of the Vineyards and UGAs

At more than 460 pages, this is a deep and detailed guide to the Italian wine region of Chianti Classico, distinct from the more extensive Chianti region which surrounds it. It is the work of a renowned cartographer and wine journalist, whose other works include two books on Barolo, and another on Barbaresco.
The highly useful maps, most with topological detail revealing the slope of the land and the location of vineyards, are accompanied by descriptive essays which further detail geological history and features. These are organized in chapters by the eleven legally recognized UGAs or Unità Geografiche Aggiuntive, which are further examined in closer detail, sometimes in units so small as to contain just three hamlets.
Evidence of Alessandro Masnaghetti’s extensive time in the area is provided both by his vivid commentary on the landscape and seven driving itineraries he provides which as an antidote to navigation apps, which provide the most direct route but often not the most revealing.
There is also a 39-page list of wineries within the region, including their contact information and brief listings of their most important products.
An almost dizzying resource for those who are passionate about Chianti Classico.
In English and in Italian. Hardcover. Color maps throughout.
