Purvis, who is food editor of The Charlotte Observer and an active member of the Southern Foodways Alliance, displays a friendly touch with the quintessential American liquor in this combination of history and cookbook. She includes all the essentials, such as bourbon pecan pie and a classic old-fashioned, but there is plenty here for the adventurous soul as well: bacon-infused bourbon; bourbon and chicken liver paté; salted bourbon caramels. Very much to like here. Hardcover.
