Published in conjunction with the 2025 exhibition at Doha’s Museum of Islamic Art, this richly illustrated catalog examines the role of food, hospitality, and dining across the Islamic world from the early centuries of Islam to the present day.

Instead of just focusing on recipes or courtly banquets, the book approaches cuisine through material culture and daily life: bread ovens, ceramics, serving vessels, agricultural practices, trade routes, etiquette, and communal dining traditions all become part of the story. Short essays explore how food moved across regions and empires, shaping interconnected culinary cultures stretching from North Africa to Central and South Asia.

An extensive visual section presents more than one hundred objects from the collections of the Museum of Islamic Art and related Qatari institutions, highlighting the artistry and social meaning embedded in acts of cooking, serving, and gathering at the table.

Paperback. Color photographs throughout.
