This small, handsome book offers modern, everyday cooking from Argentina, gathered from home and professional cooks.

Stylish, casual food photography helps evoke a variety of approaches, from the family-heirloom recipe for isla de flotante a pastry chef learned from her grandmother and now shares with her daughter, to a salad of grilled octopus dressed with herby chimichurri which a Buenos Aires human resources manager serves on her family getaways in the seaside town of Punta del Este in neighboring Uruguay.

We were pleased to see a longtime customer, Gabriela Bertagni, included as well, sharing recipes from her catering business.

Although Argentina is famous for its beef, it is not a common ingredient here. Sweet things, however, do seem to be favorites, with cookies, desserts, and preserves appearing often.

Charming.
