As Peternell, chef at Chez Panisse, contemplated sending his oldest child off to college, he began to wonder whether all the time they had spent together sharing tasks in the kitchen needed a bit of codifying into something more formal. Originally he prepared just 12 recipes for his son to take away from home. Those original recipes grew into this book of simple everyday food in which variations and improvisations are encouraged through running commentary in a confidence-inspiring voice. This is all so easy to work with yet fresh enough that experienced cooks can easily take away some great ideas.
