Twin sisters Emily and Layla Allen, who blog at kitchen-twins.com, seem to have their finger on the pulse of what their peers like to eat. They're not as interested in exploring a culinary tradition as they are in making flavorful food such as tomatillo guacamole, crisp chopped salad with honey vinaigrette, or pumpkin wonton ravioli. There's a dessert chapter, of course with some playful twists such as a pineapple upside-down carrot cake. And of course there is a smoothie chapter, too.
Throughout the book the Allens encourage young cooks to adapt recipes to their own tastes, encouraging kitchen creativity and at the same time expanding boundaries.
