Kitchen Arts & Letters will donate all proceeds from the sale of this book from the personal collection of Gladys Bourdain to the Food Chain Workers Alliance in the memories of Anthony and Gladys Bourdain.  The price reflects our intention to raise money for this cause.

This delightful sampler of the who’s who in mid-century France was collected by journalist Georges W. Roucayrol. He asks each contributor to answer a questionnaire:

  1. What is your favorite dish?
  2. What is a recipe that you love or know how to make with the understanding that it does not have to be one that is very complicated?
  3. What is a wine or drink you would recommend with this dish?
  4. What is a restaurant or bistro that you prefer in paris?

The resulting compilation is a wonderful insight into the personalities of the contributors and the type of fare that appealed to them. We hear from journalists, artists, socialites, actors, horse jockeys—truly a thorough range of celebrity that includes the likes of Brigitte Bardot, Salvador Dali, Georges Simenon, and many more names that we can safely drop.

Indices are organized by recipe, recommended restaurant, or contributor, so the book has great versatility as a cookbook, as a city guide, or as a glimpse into the lives of the rich and famous.

Issued in 1966 in paperback, this copy is in very good condition, save for a small tear on the bottom corner of the front cover. It is in French. Guaranteed good fun for francophiles and cognoscenti.
