Magazine F is a food documentary magazine which focuses on one ingredient per issue. The magazine explores how each ingredient is grown, prepared, and shared in different cultures around the world, through in-depth interviews, inspiring stories, and beautiful photos.

The magazine originates in Korea, where it is published roughly 6 times a year. But as part of its quest to examine the use of foods worldwide, it features information on many locations, traditions, cooks, and producers. 

This survey of mushrooms and fungi begins with a look at truffles, truffle hunting, and truffle-scenting dogs. There’s a brief tour of the truffle market of Alba, and then it’s on to the wider world of mushrooms, including:

  • Mushroom anatomy
  • Mushroom life cycles and the processes by which they gain nutrients
  • Mushroom growth patterns, from solitary units to those which grown in rings or connected to one another
  • Common eating varieties, both cultivated and foraged
  • Interviews with mushroom-loving chefs such as Regis Marco and Enrico Crippa
