Kitchen Work #8: The Vegetable Issue

Kitchen Work is a journal published out of San Francisco, edited by food professionals and activists.  Each issue takes on a particular theme, and writers of all experiences and types are invited to contribute.

The relative newness and 'zine-like, underground nature of the periodical opens itself up to a swath of writers and creatives as yet untapped by mainstream publications. The result is a collection of fresh, unencumbered voices and perspectives.

Issue #8, The Vegetable Issue includes contributions from, among others:

• Stephen Wade on shoulder seasons, the in-between times in greenmarkets when one growing season has ended and another has not quite started
• Emily Luchetti on the poetry of citrus
• Sumitra Mattai on the prehistoric appeal of bitter melon
• Drue Mirchand on the connection between her grandfather's vegetable garden, her career as a chef, and the plot of land she now tends
