Cabinet-door masala chai. Saucy tomatoes and chickpeas with a lot of herbs. There are a few dishes built for a crowd, including a porchetta-style smoky lamb shoulder for twelve and a culinary-school crème caramel for eight, but they are the exception. Most of the sixty-five recipes are meant to be cooked, adjusted, and eaten without ceremony.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe recipes accompany thirty essays, and the cooking is treated as self-care without turning every meal into a project. The writing is frank, funny, and specific enough, but also universal. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eGiven how much the narrative does, it is a pity the design sets that text in the smallest type in the book.
