Following on the success of the original Death & Co cocktail book, and the James Beard Award Book of the Year Cocktail Codex Death & Co Welcome Home offers the deepest exploration yet of cocktail-making ideals that began in a bar in NYC's East Village and expanded to counterparts in Denver and Los Angeles.

Unlike many cocktail guides which are written as reference books in which you turn to page 53 for an Aviator recipe and page 207 for a Zombie, Death & Co Welcome Home urges you to read the book from cover to cover. Beginning with a cocktail boot camp of sorts, the book offers training in approach and philosophy similar to what a new staff member would receive, from "establishing intention" to understanding the language of tasting.

There are even tasting experiments to refine your appreciation of a spirit, for instance comparing rum in a mojito to its presence in three different formulations of a mai tai.

In truth, despite its subtitle, Death & Co Welcome Home is not as interesting as a cocktail recipe book—although there are plenty of recipes—as it is for its cocktail and hospitality mindset.

Hardcover. Color photographs throughout.
